Environmental Industries

Newfoundland and Labrador's environmental sector supports sustainable economic growth through environmental protection (the prevention of environmental pollution, resource depletion and ecological degradation) and resources management (the management of natural and energy resources).

Environmental issues affect all industry sectors in Newfoundland and Labrador. The green economy focuses on the products, activities and processes that reduce non-renewable energy and raw materials consumption, as well as harmful emissions and their impact on the environment. Environmental management is a long-term issue and it is vital that we realize the opportunities as we develop strategies to grow the province's green economy across all industry sectors.

The sectors that make up Newfoundland and Labrador's green economy are:

  • Sustainable Resource Management
  • Green Energy Supply
  • Green Building
  • Green Transportation
  • Environmental Protection
  • Waste Management and Recycling
  • Sustainable Tourism
  • Energy Efficiency and Conservation
  • Green Knowledge and Support
