Provincial Historic Sites

The Provincial Historic Sites of Newfoundland and Labrador are snapshots of our past, providing insight into who we are today. With more than ten sites to explore from the Avalon Peninsula to the Labrador Straits, plan your next visit at Opens in new window.

Provincial Historic Sites have been designated under the Historic Resources Act because of their historical or architectural significance. While many are interpreted to the public, there are others which are preserved and protected but are not operated as visitor attractions.

Over the next few years, the Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation will be undertaking an initiative to renew its system of Provincial Historic Sites with a view to:

  • Making the sites more engaging for visitors
  • Increasing visitation by local residents
  • Attracting more school groups
  • Broadening the range of important stories and themes that are interpreted
