Business Development Highlights

Caribbean Connections

In June 2015, the Department of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, in partnership with the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and the Newfoundland and Labrador Environmental Industry Association (NEIA), led an international business development mission to the Caribbean.  This mission followed on the success of a previous visit to the region in February, during which participating businesses identified significant opportunities for future growth.

The Caribbean emerged as a key region of interest for local firms in the environmental sector following extensive discussions with NEIA members and the completion of customized market entry strategies.  The success of both missions can be attributed to the commitment of the participants in a year-long preparation phase, which was developed to enhance the likelihood of success in the targeted markets.  Preparation included training, meetings with delegations from the region, and discussions with consultants engaged to develop firm-level market entry strategies for each participating company.

The June mission focused on Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago and consisted of a full slate of pre-qualified meetings with private sector organizations, trade experts and government officials in each market.  Over 90 meetings were conducted by the delegates, resulting in significant long-term prospects for several of the participating companies.

“Resource Innovations participated in the June mission to Barbados and Trinidad in 2015. The experience was amazing. The mission was very well structured and organized which ultimately led to a number of productive meetings. The result is new partnerships and projects that are helping the company to grow its operations into new regions of the Caribbean.”

- Adam Anderson, R.P.F.
Resource Innovations Inc.

Given the success of the missions to date and the momentum achieved, a third mission is planned for the region in November, focusing on Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago, and Jamaica.  Seven companies that have completed market entry strategies for the region will participate.
