Business Development Highlights

Multi City Mission to Brazil, August 2015

In August 2015, the Department of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, in partnership with the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Technology Industries (NATI) and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), led an international business development mission to four cities in Brazil over a one-week program. This mission follows up on the past five years of business development focused on South America’s largest economy.

The four cities in Brazil included Rio de Janeiro, Macae, Sao Paulo and Santos. These locations were selected based on company interest and strategic market intelligence indicating opportunities in Information and Communication Technology, Ocean Technology and Oil and Gas Supply and Services. Mission participants worked with a selected matchmaker in market to organize a full meeting schedule in all four locations. In addition to matchmaking, the participants were given full access to Brazilian legal advisory services. This gave each participant the opportunity to review contracts and get advice on a variety of issues such as taxation, payment processing, logistics, and tariffs. The week also included presentations and tours by Petrobras, Subsea7 and the University of Sao Paulo.

The NL delegation received an open invite to meet with the technical experts, tour facilities or have one on one meeting with senior level executives,  demonstrating the commitment from both regions to continue developing solid business partnerships and diversifying their presence globally.
