8th Annual SEUS-CP Conference and Business-to-Business Mission: Build. Grow. Connect.

Taking place in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, the 8th Annual SEUS-CP B2B Mission and Conference will take place from June 28-30, 2015 at the PEI Convention Center with more than 300 Canadian and U.S. business leaders participating. This event will offer a great opportunity to network with key global leaders.

SEUS PEIThe theme of this year's event is "Clustering Companies and Organizations to Increase Economic Benefit."  The keynote address from Ifor Ffowcs-Williams, CEO, Cluster Navigators Limited, an international leader in the development of industry clusters, will look at the potential for clusters as an economic strategy in a world trade environment. Included in the robust agenda is a B2B matchmaking program that will match delegates from across the 13 alliance jurisdictions to maximize business opportunities.  As well, businesses will have the chance to meet directly with procurement officials from the SEUS/CP anchor companies.

Charlottetown is an area of great opportunity with strengths in a number of sectors, including renewable energy and bioscience. Matchmaking will be focused on these sectors, but will also include aerospace and defense, ocean technology, energy, food/agri-food, logistics, life science, ICT and digital media.

This conference, through focused B2B matchmaking, provides invaluable opportunities for companies to identify new markets, forge new partnerships, and foster existing business connections.  Contact us now as recruitment is underway!  If you are interested in attending this conference, please contact Gillian Chatman at 729-3922.

Established in 2007, the SEUS-CP Alliance is a strategic trade partnership between six southeastern states (Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama) and seven Canadian provinces (Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario and Manitoba).

International Business Development Multi-sector Mission to Ireland: Featuring Harnessing Our Ocean Wealth Conference, Ireland

Where: Ireland
When: Week of July 6-11, 2015
Allison Dancey, (709) 729-7053

A multi-sector business development mission to Ireland will take place in conjunction with Ireland’s annual Harnessing Our Ocean Wealth Conference (HOOW) in Cork, July 9-11, 2015.

The multi-sector mission will feature access to the National Conference and a wide range of ocean and business activities highlighting the growing Newfoundland and Labrador collaborations. Ireland continues to be an excellent jurisdiction for business and research partnerships across all sectors and the program agenda will support business activity throughout Ireland.

HOOW is a three day event in Cork, Ringaskiddy and Haulbowline in association with the IMERC (Irish Maritime and Energy Resource Cluster) with support from Beaufort Laboratory, University College Cork (UCC), the National Maritime College of Ireland, the Naval Service, the Marine Institute of Ireland and SmartOcean Ireland. The Conference will bring together Ireland's ocean industry plus participation from other USA and European maritime jurisdictions.

The event, held under the auspices of Ireland’s Inter-Departmental Marine Coordination Group Chaired by Minister Simon Coveney, is an initiative of Ireland's Integrated Marine Plan – Harnessing Our Ocean Wealth. It will build on the first annual conference which took place in Dublin Castle 2014, attended by 500 delegates. Again this year, Newfoundland and Labrador delegates are invited to participate in the full range of activities such as the Newfoundland and Labrador Reception, A Marine Technology Expo, investor event, workshops, startup and innovation workshops, TEDx talks and the Seafood Festival.

Allison Dancey, (709) 729-7053

The Autumn is a busy time for business in the UK with many major industry events and sector activities taking place.  The Department is seeking expressions of interest from 2 Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) businesses and organizations wishing to explore business growth in the UK markets in September. The UK sectors offering opportunity for NL include: education, ICT/Data, aerospace & defense, oil & gas, food and beverage, arts and renewable energy.

The UK is a gateway to access the wider European markets. Similarities in the business environment such as language, political structure, cultural and legal systems contribute to doing business there and with continental Europe.

“London is still the most influential city in the world”, according to Forbes Magazine. “The future of global cities belongs to the most efficient and savvy.” Forbes ranked global cities based on levels of foreign investment attracted, concentration of corporate headquarters, business dominance, ease of air travel, financial services, technology, media power and racial diversity. “London’s unparalleled legacy as a global financial capital continues despite the reduced focus as a power centre.”

Following up on the tremendous success of MTS/IEEE OCEANS’14 in St. John’s this past September, we are now setting sail for MTS/IEEE OCEANS’15 in Washington, DC, October 19-22, 2015.

OCEANS’15 will bring together scientists, engineers, educators, industry leaders and policy makers. These four days in October will be packed with technical presentations, tutorials, workshops, networking opportunities and an exhibition highlighting state-of-the-art developments in technologies related to exploring, monitoring, protecting, and wisely using the world’s ocean resources. More than 2,500 attendees with a broad international representation are expected.

This year’s theme, “Sea Change: Dive into Opportunity,” will shine a bright light on some of the most critical issues the world faces today and how our community can help society develop solutions to address their impacts and benefit from new opportunities.

Once again, the department is inviting ocean technology companies to participate as part of the Atlantic Canadian delegation.   Please contact Shelly Petten (709) 729-4208 for more details.

In addition to the regular OCEANS program, companies will be invited to participate in a simultaneous and complimentary international business development mission focused on exploring opportunities in the Mid-Atlantic US region.

BTCRD, in partnership with ACOA and ADIANL, have been actively involved in several initiatives in the region and will be providing company specific matchmaking opportunities for interested companies.  Please contact Gillian Chatman at (709) 729-3922 for more details.
