Business Development Highlight

Globe 2014

In March, a group of businesses and organizations from Newfoundland and Labrador took part in a global green economy conference in Vancouver, BC – GLOBE 2014. The project was delivered in partnership by the Department of Innovation, Business and Rural Development (IBRD); the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA); and, the Newfoundland and Labrador Environmental Industry Association (NEIA).

GLOBE is an international conference with thousands of participants from dozens of countries exploring opportunities in the environmental sector. Through participation in the mission, NL organizations gained valuable international exposure, promoted their firms at the Atlantic Canadian trade booth, benefited from dedicated matchmaking services, and developed targeted business relationships. For more information on international business development opportunities specific to the Environmental Sector, contact Susan Vaughan (709) 729-4435.

International Business Development Mission, Film/Television Producers

From June 5-12, IBRD with a delegation from NL participated in the Emerging/Mid-level Producers LA International Business Development Mission. The program provided in-market activities including one-on-one business-to-business matchmaking, product screening, networking opportunities and industry tours.

The business program addressed the fact that emerging/mid-level producers are still building capacity within their companies and honing skills as producers. The LA market is an ideal training ground for participants as there is a cluster of same size companies looking for partners to produce film/TV and new media projects as well as established companies looking for new producer talent.

Companies participated in the high profile industry conference by The Producer's Guild of America, Produced By 2014. The Producers Guild of America and host Warner Bros. Studios together showcased top speakers in film, television and digital media at the largest conference for producers by producers.

This conference is the only event in the world where the most influential decision-makers in the entertainment industry, the producers, gather in one place. This educational forum attracts over a thousand participants every year, where veteran professionals and emerging talents alike come to meet, network and hear from numerous Academy Award-winning filmmakers, Emmy Award-winning showrunners and the next generation of creative entrepreneurs.

This conference is a unique opportunity to be part of a large-scale industry-only forum, including: educational seminars, innovative workshops, mentoring roundtables, technology demonstrations and business exhibits. For more information contact Carolann Harding at 729-4617.
