International Business Development Mission to Ireland, November 2015

In November the Department of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development (BTCRD) led a multi-sector international business development mission to Ireland. The Newfoundland and Labrador delegation comprised 24 businesses, research institutions and levels of government focused on ocean technology, fisheries, human resources, cultural industries, engineering and supporting the startup community. Partnering organizations in Ireland included the Irish Marine Institute, SmartBay Ireland Galway, IMERC (Irish Maritime and Energy Resource Cluster) and the Tyndall Institute. Delegates participated in a full slate of meetings facilitated by a business-to-business matchmaking consultant; attended a number of international conferences running concurrently to the mission; and, toured institutes and facilities in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Limerick.

During the mission the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University signed a trans-Atlantic collaboration agreement with SmartBay Ireland, Dublin City University and the Marine Institute Ireland. The key aims of the agreement are the sharing of assets, capacity and capability in a shared mission and to provide researchers, innovators and entrepreneurs access to both SmartBay test and validation infrastructures currently deployed in the North Atlantic. Where: Copenhagen, Denmark
When: March 23-25, 2015
Rebecca Hefferton, (709) 729-1629

BTCRD is pleased to be leading an international business development mission to Copenhagen, Demark. The mission features the Arctic Technology Conference  (ATC) – the Arctic focused instalment of the flagship conference - Offshore Technology Conference (OTC).

In 2016 ATC will be held in St. John’s and this international business development mission to ATC in 2015 will be the ideal opportunity for industry, academia and government to jointly promote the province as The Path to the Arctic, The World’s Cold-Ocean Laboratory and the growing economy advancing in oil and gas, ocean technologies and Arctic-related sectors.

Launched in 2011 this highly focused conference consists of a technical program and exhibition, and attracts more than 1,200 attendees and over 80 exhibitors from around the world. Newfoundland and Labrador has had a strong presence at ATC since 2011, including in February 2014 with a delegation of approximately 65 participants representing 29 organizations. Experts from the province also took part in 30 presentations during the technical sessions focused on cutting-edge technologies and innovative practices needed for exploration and production of energies in the Arctic.

The Newfoundland and Labrador delegation to ATC 2015 will be able to avail of a full program of offerings including meeting space, a Newfoundland and Labrador co-sponsored seminar and reception, and networking at the Newfoundland and Labrador “Path to the Arctic” booth, ideally situated at the main entrance of the exhibit hall. Delegate organizations from the province can submit profile information to BTCRD to have included on touchscreens at the booth. The deadline for submitting this is now, contact Rebecca Hefferton for more information.

Together, industry and institutions across the province have much to offer and benefit from ATC Copenhagen 2015 and to showcase Newfoundland and Labrador for 2016. This international business development mission will be a unique opportunity to feature the province’s collective expertise, infrastructure and ideal location for Arctic-related initiatives. To discuss your organization’s interest in the delegation to ATC 2015, please contact Rebecca Hefferton.

NITEC is a collaborative venture between the NATO Communications and Information (NCI) Agency and AFCEA Europe (Association for Communications, Electronics, Intelligence and Information Systems Professionals).

Held annually, this conference draws high-level defense experts from NATO, the Allied militaries, industry and academia to discuss the latest technological developments and to collaborate on NATO C4ISR business opportunities and major procurements. Allison Dancey, (709) 729-7053

BTCRD will lead a multi-sector business development mission to Ireland in conjunction with Ireland’s annual Harnessing Our Ocean Wealth Conference (HOOW) in Cork, July 10-11, 2015.

The mission will feature access to the national conference and a wide range of ocean and business activities highlighting the growing Newfoundland and Labrador collaborations. Ireland continues to be an excellent jurisdiction for business and research partnerships across all sectors and the program agenda will support business activity throughout Ireland.

HOOW is a two day event in Cork, Ringaskiddy and Haulbowline in association with the IMERC (Irish Maritime and Energy Resource Cluster) with support from Beaufort Laboratory, University College Cork (UCC), the National Maritime College of Ireland, the Naval Service and the Marine Institute of Ireland. The Conference will bring together Ireland's ocean industry plus participation from other maritime jurisdictions.

The event, held under the auspices of Ireland’s Inter-Departmental Marine Coordination Group Chaired by Minister Simon Coveney, is an initiative of Ireland's Integrated Marine Plan – Harnessing Our Ocean Wealth. It will build on the first annual conference which took place in Dublin Castle 2014, attended by 500 delegates. Again this year, Newfoundland and Labrador delegates are invited to participate in the full range of activities such as the marine technology expo, investor events, workshops, startup and innovation workshops, TEDx talks and the seafood festival.
