 Business Development Highlights

The China Market

Newfoundland and Labrador and China have strong trade and economic relations. In fact, for 4 of the past 5 years China has held the position as NL’s 2nd largest export market, behind the United States.  China is a priority market for Newfoundland and Labrador, particularly in the Energy, Mining, Fisheries, Education, and Ocean Technology sectors.  However increasingly SMEs in NL are participating in the market in a variety of ways; from sourcing materials in order to develop a global supply chain; to direct sales and service provision; to manufacturing.  We have resources and experience that can help you access this market.

If you are interested in the China market we would like to hear from you.  Please contact Bob Norman at 709-729-0598.

Expressions of Interest: Business Development Mission to the UK

Where: United Kingdom: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
Contact: Allison Dancey, (709) 729-7053

The Spring and early Summer are very active times for international business in the United Kingdom (UK) with numerous major industry events and sector activities. The Department of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development (BTCRD) is now planning activities for 2016 and would like to hear from businesses and organizations wishing to explore the markets of the UK.

The UK, a member of the European Union, is a market with a population of 60 million people. The Province is working with national and international partners to offer trade and business development supports for market entry to the UK. The Canadian High Commission London can provide support for NL businesses in interest sectors such as education, Innovation/Data, aerospace & defense, oil & gas, ocean technology, food and beverage, culture, and renewable energy.

Similarities in the business environment such as language, political structure, cultural and legal systems support ease of doing business and facilitate linkages to the markets of Continental Europe (700 million people). Many international events take place in London and, the year around direct flights from St. John’s to London and Gatwick ease travel burden. Forbes’ ranking of London as “… the most influential city in the world” is based on access to capital, levels of foreign investment, corporate headquarters, ease of air travel, financial strength, technology, media power and diversity.

For more information or to register interest in the UK, contact Allison Dancey at (709) 729-7053.
