Co-operative Development

Basics of a Co-operative

Overview

As part one of the Community Capacity Building program's co-operative development training, this section focuses on what a co-operative is and its inherent value within economic development. Part of this introduction consists of an exploration of possible reasons to develop a co-operative, related legislation, and the co-operative as a unique type of business model.

Tailored specifically towards issues within Newfoundland and Labrador, there is a thorough examination of the roles of a co-operative, what makes it different from a private business, the values it operates within, and how to identify the opportunity to form a co-operative within specific development initiatives.
